The engineering partner, without the twelve-hour gap

Most companies that look for an offshore software development partner have already tried one. The complaint is rarely about the code. It is that a question asked at 10am was answered at 3am, that the team was three people last month and five strangers this month, and that nobody could say what had actually been built until the demo.

We are set up against exactly that. Abuja is on UTC+1 — the same hour as Berlin, one ahead of London, five to eight ahead of the United States. A UK or EU client shares a whole working day with us; a US client gets our afternoon as its morning. You get a named lead and a named team rather than a resource pool, and a demo of working software every fortnight.

The commercial side is deliberately unremarkable, because that is what reassures people: a registered limited company, invoicing in pounds, dollars or euros, work-for-hire IP assignment so everything is yours from the first commit, your NDA or ours, a DPA with processor terms, and EU or UK data residency where the product needs it.

And most engagements start small — a two-week paid pilot on real work. You judge the team on something delivered rather than on a deck, and you can stop there. We have built this way for clients in Britain, Ireland, the United States, the EU and as far as Iceland.

How companies work with us

  • Dedicated development teams

A named team — engineers, designer, QA and a lead you speak to directly — working only on your product, on a monthly retainer you can scale up or down.

    • Named team
    • Monthly retainer
    • Scale up or down
  • Fixed-scope project delivery

A written scope, a fixed price per stage and a date we hold to. Best when you know what you want built and would rather buy an outcome than a process.

    • Fixed price
    • Stage gates
    • Held dates
  • Team extension

Our engineers inside your sprints, your tooling, your standups and your code review — filling a gap rather than running a parallel project.

    • Your process
    • Your repos
    • Your standups
  • Real overlap, not a handover

West Africa Time is one hour ahead of London and puts a full working morning alongside New York. You get same-day answers, not overnight ticket replies.

    • UTC+1
    • UK overlap all day
    • US mornings
  • Contracts that stand up

Work-for-hire IP assignment, NDA, DPA and processor terms, GDPR-aware data handling, and invoicing in GBP, USD or EUR from a registered limited company.

    • IP assigned
    • NDA & DPA
    • GDPR-aware
  • Quality you can audit

Code review on every change, automated tests, CI, staging environments and monitoring — and access to all of it, so the quality is something you can check rather than take on trust.

    • Staging
    • Full access

How an engagement starts

  1. Step 01

A call, then a written scope

Thirty minutes to understand the product and the constraints, then a scope, a price per stage and a date — in your currency, before you commit anything.

  2. Step 02

    A two-week paid pilot

Rather than asking you to trust a deck, we build something real and small first. You judge the team on delivered work, and can stop there.

  3. Step 03

    Delivery in the open

A demo every fortnight, your repos, your cloud accounts, your board. You can read every commit on the day it lands.

The questions we get asked first

What time zone do you work in, and will it be a problem?

We are on West Africa Time, UTC+1. That is the same hour as Berlin, one hour ahead of London and five to eight ahead of the US. In practice a UK or EU client has a full shared working day with us, and a US client gets our afternoon as its morning — a real overlap for standups and decisions, rather than the twelve-hour handover you get from South or East Asia. It is one of the main reasons clients in the UK and the US choose us.

Who owns the intellectual property?

You do, completely. Our contract assigns all IP in the work to you on a work-for-hire basis, and the repositories, cloud accounts and domains are in your name from the first day rather than transferred at the end. We sign your NDA, or provide ours, whichever you prefer.

How do you handle GDPR and data protection?

We sign a data processing agreement and work to processor obligations: named sub-processors, data minimisation, encryption in transit and at rest, and EU or UK data residency where your product requires it — we deploy to EU and UK regions routinely. Where personal data does not need to leave your infrastructure, our access is scoped so that it does not.

Can you invoice in GBP, USD or EUR?

Yes. Swizel Technologies Limited is a registered limited company and invoices in pounds, dollars or euros, payable by bank transfer, with payment staged against delivered work rather than taken up front.

How do we know the quality will hold up?

Two ways, and neither asks you to take our word for it. First, most engagements start with a small paid pilot — two weeks of real work you can judge before committing to more. Second, you get access to everything as it happens: the repositories, the code review, the CI runs, the test suite, the staging environment and the board. Quality you can read is quality you can verify.

Is this offshore development? What is the catch?

It is offshore in the literal sense and the rate is lower than a London or New York studio, so the fair question is what you give up. The honest answer: you give up sitting in the same room, and you take on the overhead of running a distributed engagement — which is why we insist on a shared working day, a named lead and a fortnightly demo. What you do not give up is standard of work; our own team in Sheffield, Cork and New York reviews it against the market you are selling into.

Where is the team actually based?

The engineering base is Abuja, Nigeria, with colleagues in Lagos, Cork, Sheffield and New York. Our Nigeria page covers the local side of the business, and the about page introduces the people.
